No. 206 Wood Duck Watercolor

 

A lagoon near my home in Livingston, Montana is home to a variety of waterfowl throughout the

year. One October morning I decided to try my luck photographing the migrating ducks and geese

when I came across this drake wood duck swimming in a narrow slough. As I photographed him

against the normally black water, he suddenly swam into a patch of color, the reflection of an

autumn color bush on the opposite shore. To add the the scene, he dove underwater and retrieved

a green leaf from the bottom of the slough which he quickly ate.
