No. 186 Whooooo...Me?
I had worked with the Spotted Owl in southwestern Oregon for two years and found
most of them very accommodating. One pair in particular would actually come and find
me making them very easy to work with. For this shot, I waited until the owl perched
on a branch close to the trunk of the tree. Then I walked around the other side of
the tree until I couldn't see the owl. I composed the shot and focused the lens as
best as I could and then made little squeaky noises like a mouse. The owl, thinking there
was a meal to be had, peered around the tree and I started shooting. A few seconds
later, he flew to a branch ten feet form me and I had to start all over again.
