Polar bears often have 2 young, but at least one of them dies before its first birthday. Here a set

of year and a half old twins poses with their mother along the shores of Hudson Bay in northern

Manitoba. Should they survive the long winter, they will be chased away by their mother

come spring so she can mate once again.
