No. 163 King Colony

 

I photographed this mass of King penguins on South Georgia Island about 350 north of Antarctica. An estimated

quarter of a million birds were in this colony. They literally covered the plains and hillsides.

The noise was deafening. The smell nauseating. But, after a while, the thrill of being among

so many photographic subjects dulled the senses and the work continued.
