No. 179 Time For A Nap

On the first day of my trip to McNeil River in Alaska in 1999, I came across this

female brown bear with her three cubs. She was feeding on sedge grass in the distance

when a male bear came over the ridge. The female, fearing for her cubs, headed down

the trail toward me. The male dedided to head in another direction, so the mother bear

calmed down and stopped about 30 feet from me. She rested for a while and then

nursed her three cubs. Here, two of the cubs are resting after drinking their fill

while the third cub is still nursing.
